November 15, 2005: Trescott Historical Society News THS has interviewed Norman Nelson, who sailed on the schooner Lucy Evelyn as a teenager in the 1930's. Photos, audio, and possibly video, will be available at a later date. November 15, 2005: Trescott News – State Maps for Trescott Now Online – Augusta Planning New Regional Property Tax for Unorganized Territories November 13, 2005: Next Meeting Wednesday, November 16, 2005 A nominating committee will be chosen to make up a slate of officers for the January 18 election. Nominations will be accepted from that night through Friday, January 13. We'll also discuss plans for the December 14 holiday party. Our Food Pantry donor basket is in the Lubec Memorial Library community room, ready to accept any canned, dried and packaged food items by November 16. We hope you can be as generous as in the past three years. It is an important commitment that we make twice a year to the community. The call is still on for a volunteer to be editor for a quarterly newsletter to assist Bonnie Healy. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. October 19, 2005: Next Meeting Wednesday, October 19, 2005 Film: A Century of Summers - The Impact of a Summer Colony on a Small Coastal Town, 1886 - 1986 and Photos from the September Field Trip from the Porcupine and Trescott Rock Between the brief business meeting, munching on snacks and bagging up all our assorted Halloween treats that we can bring home, plan A is to show the the film: A Century of Summers - The Impact of a Summer Colony on a Small Coastal Town, 1886 - 1986. This classic runs about 40 minutes. Plan B will be put into action if the library VCR doesn't work we can eat on the spot more than usual. This will be followed by a Halloween party. Please bring enough treats, after our indulging, to share with others in take-home-bags. The Board of Directors have allowed costumes this year, as long as they're not as risque as last year. Thanks to Rick Tanney and some other camera buffs, we will also present what some members saw atop the Porcupine and Trescott Rock on our September field trip. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. October 19, 2005: Next Meeting Wednesday, September 21, 2005 September 18, 2005: There are several old business items on the agenda, including the cleaning up of the McFadden/Jones Cemetery on Jones Road at Dixie that was funded by a Jones descendant, Mr. David James, as well as the planned headstone restoration project there. Also, there are a number of new business items of interest. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. October 19, 2005: Annual Picnic at West Quoddy Head August 6, 2005 July 25, 2005: Our annual members picnic will be held at West Quoddy Head Park picnic site on Saturday, August 6 anytime from noon to 5. Look for our THS posted sign. The rain date will be Sunday, August 7. Call 733-4729 or 733-5548 if Sat. morning weather is dubious. A number of us have volunteered to bring plenty of great New York hotel style choice sirloin burgers, yummy all-beef franks, rolls for both, beverages, condiments, salsa and chips. For those of you that can attend this bash, which rivals our annual December holiday party, please contact us as to how many family members will come along with you and what other foods you might bring, such as salads or sweets. Bring balls and bats for the kids. The ocean trails are fabulous. Hope to see you there at the greatest place in Washington County. July 20, 2005: Next Meeting Wednesday, July 20, 2005 There will be a discussion on how we may clean up and improve 2 or 3 grave yards, possibly at little or no cost to THS under a recent Maine law. We also will finalize plans for our annual August picnic and set the date. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. June 14, 2005: Next Meeting Wednesday, June 15, 2005 Regular business meeting discussions will include such topics as the Jones/McFadden cemetery, the October Genealogy Exchange and our annual picnic. On display will be the 5'X5' 1861 Washington Co. Map by Mr. Walling. (It's almost wall-size). Like the 1881 Washington Co. Atlas by Colby it is a cadastral map, in which home owners' names and resident locations are indicated. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. Meeting Wednesday, May 18, 2005 LURC Planning and Zoning Following our regular business meeting we will present Charles Corliss of the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) field office in Cherryfield who will give an overview of its planning and zoning authority for the plantations and unorganized towns comprising one-half of the state. He will begin his talk at 6:30. Commission member Carol Murtaugh of Lubec will also be present to explain the roll of the commissioners, who are appointed by the Governor and charged with regulating the environment and planning the use of natural resources. This program is free and open to the public. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. Next Meeting Wednesday, April 20, 2005 Celebrate Spring – Cheese Tasting Party Our 40th meeting will be held on April 20 to celebrate the arrival of spring with a Cheese Tasting Party for members and their invited guests. Enjoy the luxury of sampling prize-winning imported and domestic cheeses and light wines donated by Sheila Marie Imports of Reading MA. A brief business meeting will begin at 5:30 PM, followed by discussions on the following topics: • Our annual Genealogy Exchange Fair • Summer picnic • Reissuing newsletters • Building town-line welcome signs • Running a Trescott Photo Contest • Acquiring two town cemeteries Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. Mar 13, 2005: Next Meeting on March 16, 2005 Lubec Smoke Houses After a short business meeting a film will be shown called Lubec Smoke Houses – if the library's VCR is functioning. In case it isn't, bring your own blarney so the Court Jester doesn't load the rest of us down with his version of funny Irish jokes. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. Feb 7, 2005: New Meeting Schedule Monthly meetings are now on the third Wednesday of the month, same time, (5:30 PM pronto will allow guest speakers to start at 6:30 PM), same place: Lubec Memorial Library.
