December 11, 2006 Christmas Holiday Party, December 20, 2006 Our Christmas holiday open-house party will be held at the Lubec Library on Wednesday, December 20th between 5:00 and 8:00. To join in on the Yankee Swap just bring along a wrapped new or used item under $10.00. If you missed our November meeting and you'd like to bring along a food item for the Food Pantry donation please give Bonnie a call at 733-5548. Come and enjoy the decorations, music, sandwiches, sweets and eggnog. Bring a friend or two or some family members, young or old. THE MORE THE MERRIER! Storm date: Next night, same time. November 14, 2006 Upcoming Events Our donation basket for the Food Pantry is in the library foyer and its contents will be collected on Dec. 21. Canned, packaged, dry, bottled and boxed food items are needed. In advance, thank you for your generosity. Our annual winter holiday party will begin at 5:00 Wednesday, Dec. 20 and the Annual Organizational Meeting will be on Wednesday, Jan. 17 for the purpose of electing officers for 2007 and Directors for the 2007 – 2009 term. October 17, 2006 October Halloween Meeting, October 18, 2006 Come costumed if you dare. Yummy refreshments will follow the regular business meeting. We may have an update on the Baldacci administration's controversial new State regulations prohibiting owners of private property from traditional uses of their land within 250' of the shore, and the impact of the regulations on Trescott. August 17, 2006 September Meeting Rescheduled to Wednesday, September 13 A presentation will be given by the New England Aquarium at the Lubec Memorial Library on Wednesday evening September 20, so the THS will meet the previous week on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at the Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. September 9 Update: The Aquarium presentation was rescheduled, but the Trescott Historical Society meeting will remain on the 13th. Following the business meeting there will be a showing of a video - Shingle Making in Maine. Refreshments will be served later. On the agenda will be a presentation of the "Welcome to Trescott" sign design. August 17, 2006 Annual Members Summer Picnic Rescheduled to Saturday August 20 Due to members reigned in, our August picnic has been rescheduled for Sunday, Aug 20th, still at West Quoddy State Park. Food will be served starting at 1:00PM. Any guests you wish to invite are still most welcome. There is no rain or reign date. August 6, 2006 Historical News Lubec Library Increasing Local History Collection July 28, 2006 Annual Members Summer Picnic, Saturday August 5 Our 4th annual members summer picnic will be held at West Quoddy State Park on Saturday, August 5th. Setting-up will begin at 12:30 PM and everything should be ready around 1:00 PM. Appetizers will be followed by grilled sirloin burgers, beef franks and BBQ chicken, complemented by a variety of donated side dishes. You are more than welcome to invite your family, neighbors or friends. The more the merrier. Just let us know how many will be coming so we be sure to have enough of everything. Iced tea will be available. Bring any other beverage of your choice. Rain date is Sunday, August 6th, and the second bad weather date is Saturday, August 12th. These picnics have been a smashing success. It looks like this will be the best one yet, but you won't know that unless you join us. Call 733-5548 if you plan to come but didn't attend our July meeting. We'll be happy to see all of our local members there, as well as those members living at a distance. There is no August meeting in the Lubec Library this month. July 18, 2006 Next Meeting, Wednesday July 19 The July business meeting will begin at 5:30. We will review a plan for the “Welcome to Trescott” sign design, watch the video Shingles Making, firm up plans for our August 5 annual picnic, and discuss future program topics. The June business meeting will begin at 5:30. New business agenda items will include plans for our annual August picnic, a discussion on fund- raising ideas, and a date set for the Cemetery Committee to meet. Old business will include an update on the infamous Haycock Harbor cannon ball. Those who forgot to bring along their "show and tell" items last month can redeem themselves this Wednesday. For those of you who brought something last month why not bring along another item? It's all in fun and it is informative. There will be a brief demonstration on how to use the 1790 to 1930 Washington Co. census disks for those who are interested. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. May 16, 2006 Next Meeting, Wednesday May 19 The May business meeting will be followed by presentations given by those who bring items for a “show and tell”, whether it be an object, newspaper clipping, photograph, or any item which relates to our town or to Washington County. Rick Tanney will show us what he has accomplished in identifying Trescott cemeteries, interments and stone inscriptions and by creating computer models for the public use. April 13, 2006 Next Meeting, Wednesday April 19 Blueberries in Washington County Our regular brief business meeting will include details regarding a cannon ball recently found at Haycock Harbor that could date back to the War of 1812 when documented skirmishes were known to have occurred there. The purpose of our monthly walking tour this month will be to locate the Moose Cove gravestone of Oliver Moore. We are asking for extra volunteers to find it. At 6:15 p.m. there will be an informative talk by Zeke Gaddis, a 4th generation eastern Washington Co. blueberry grower. Several issues will be open for discussion, including the outlook for this year's harvest, the latest developments in management and the latest improvements in cultivation practices. Light refreshments will follow Mr. Gaddis' presentation. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. March 1, 2006 Local Real Estate Trends Following our regular business meeting we will present Debra Holmes of the Bold Coast Realty in Lubec who will discuss trends in the local real estate market. This program is free and open to the public. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. February 11, 2006 Next Meeting Wednesday, February 15, 2006 As we missed the January meeting due to inclement weather, our Annual Meeting will be held Wednesday, February 15. The first order of business is to elect officers for the current year. Officers' and Board of Director's annual reports will be submitted. After a brief business meeting, a video entitled Ice Harvesting Sampler will be shown followed by a social hour and refreshments. Lubec Memorial Library, 5:30 PM. January 17, 2006 Next Meeting Wednesday, January 18, 2006 A brief business meeting and the annual voting of officers will be followed by an historical video "Early Ice Harvesting in Maine". Ice was a very important Maine export commodity from the late 1800s to the early 1940s. The film brings to life how some of our early ancestors found a way to subsist in the winter months between the crop harvesting and sowing seasons. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
